Colour versus re-coloured

Postby Admin (Dietrich) » Sun Apr 23, 2017 3:29 pm

The photographs in the above examples are "re-coloured". Thus it relies on research and apposition of artefact and history and painstaking work, but still subject to interpretation.

What is also interest are real colour photos from that era.

Today, there were some colour photos on YLE (Finnish national broadcasting). The photographer was Carl-Erik Groth, a Swedish military physician in the Winter War. The images are from the Finnish region of Karelia, part of which was captured by the Soviets.

The collection is partly held at the Lapeenranta. There are some more photos on that site.

Every one of those photographs is fascinating, but by far the most poignant is this one: http://www.lappeenranta.fi/loader.aspx? ... 0f31249674
