The problem is that when Gen 2 is out (or gen 3) the desktop equivalent monitor display and PC will be able to generate that much more detail as well. VR is always going to lag behind what you get on your 2d display, so whatever sacrifice you perceive in going to the current VR option will still be there when the next VR option is out.

True, but I'm only running 1920x1080 now even though my sceen and card are 4k possible. I prefer the high frame rates over resolution. If I can get a nice wide FoV in VR with similar resolution, ad 60FPS then that's enough for me.
I expect that with Gen2.

For me, gen2 doesn't provide enough of an improvement over gen1 to tempt me. I want a wider fov and resolution good enough to track bandits.

Currently in 1.5.8 I am getting 175fps in 4k and I find that hard to give up.

Currently I am looking at a three screen setup, now that I have planning permission for the basement from She Who Must Be Obeyed.

I'm much less interested in the visuals than in the method of interaction. Short of building a 1:1 sim pit for each aircraft flown, personally I see little point in VR in its current implementations

What you do get from VR is the feeling that you are INSIDE the cockpit instead of looking at a screen. Even if you only use it for "pleasure flights" I think its worth it :)

I've found Gen 1 a lot more bearable since managing to turn off ASW this week, which doesn't play well with propeller aircraft, so I can increase the pixel density without everything being blurry (turns out you have to have Oculus Home running in the background to turn it off).

I'd still wait for Gen 2 however, I just hope they can put in some performance improvements rather than just up the resolution and hope for the best - things like variable detail linked to eye tracking, where the thing you're looking at is high res, but your peripheral vision is blurred so the whole thing isn't running at high detail all the time.

Here you go...Gen 2 starts this year:

I keep trying to share the video from YouTube in the forum, but it just will not work. Really don't know what I am doing wrong!

I'm going to stick with my Rift for some time, but this does look very good. I don't think I can justify having another headset and I'd like to see reviews of how it performs. No idea what it would be like with my system. It will be interesting to see if a new Rift is released this year too.

Oh and wireless headsets are a must! It would be great to not have a cable hanging down and dragging you back!
