Making a team - what ships do you have yet?

Postby EAF331_Stuntman » Mon May 02, 2016 11:09 am

Let's plan a tentative vision of how to play together in Star Citizen.

I was thinking how us SOW players would form up as team players and how we could assist each others, either as multiple ships or part of the same crew. I would appreciate if people would write down their main roles they wish to do. I also suggest we write down the ships we have pledged, so we know whose players can work well together on the same ship and whose can team up as wingmen etc. I know it is still early days, but this thread could guide more SOW players to pick a ship and role suited to their intentions.

So which ships do you have and what intentions do you have for them?

My visions are:

1st priority: military air/space support missions, intruder and strike missions - Vanguard Harbinger for land based operations, Gladiator for carrier based.

2nd priority: planetary exploration - Aurora LX, need advice to upgrade to a better ship!

3rd priority: dogfighting and escort - no ship yet, need advice!

4th priority: recreational fun, top priority delivery missions, speed: 350r

I need some advice please.

Straight off the bat, I want to do exploration as my main activity, until we get organized enough to do any military operations (Squadron19, UEE Reserves etc).

So, what ship to use for planetary exploration? Is Constellation Aquila too much? Is Freelancer DUR too little? Should we wait for new concept ships?

I would very much prefer a team effort in the exploration role, one of us has an exploration ship and others can join as crew or assisting ships. I really want to do these explorations together with other players. Thus I am interested in a multi-crewed explorer such as Aquila and Freelancer DUR.

And finally, what dogfighter? I want to assist and join others in SOW as a wing, so we likely should have the same ship. What about the Gladius?

I hope people are interested in noting down their intended roles and ships they already have or on their wishlist.

Thank you for any help!

Our current ORBAT is as follows:

Myself:

Aegis Gladius
Anvil Carrack

Squiffy:

Anvil Super Hornet

Speedy:

Origin 325a

Hinkel:

Consolidated Mustang Alpha

Razy:

Consolidated Mustang Alpha

My own intention is to use the Gladius as my primary Fighter, for escort and patrols etc, and the Carrack as a sort of militarised exploration/patrol ship - however I may swap my Carrack for a MISC Endeavour to use as a Pocket-Carrier, which should hold 4 or so Fighters I believe.

For your specific requirements, given that you say planetary exploration, and that they're adding in procedural Planets that you can land on, I'd probably go with the Constellation Aquila because it has its own Rover for ground stuff, saying that however it's also likely that you could fit a vehicle into the back of a Freelancer, depending on the size - it just depends on what sort of ground vehicles they come up with.

You could always start with a Freelancer then work your way up to a Constellation or a Carrack as well.

For dogfighting and escort, I would go with the Gladius - as I prefer faster lightly armed Fighters to slower heavy ones like the Hornet (also the Gladius looks better :P ), the Sabre would be a good middle ground between the Gladius and the Hornet however.

One note about the Gladius however is that it's a short range Fighter (though so is the Hornet), so it may not be suitable for long range escort missions, unless you take a refueling ship like the Starfarer (though I'm also hoping that they might let you add fuel tanks to the Gladiator to use as a Carrier based fuel ship), or have an Escort Carrier such as the Endeavour, or Idris if you're loaded.

Thank you Dixon. So as I expected your squadron is primarily fighters but with potential for exploration with the Carrack.

For your Carrack or whatever ship you might make it, I'm interested in joining as crew, be an assistant explorer ship or fighter escort as the rest. The options are there. But I'm not sure if I want to buy my own Aquila or Freelancer explorer ship if I have to fly mostly alone. AI crew will get boring quickly!

I guess me and you both having a Gladius would work well with the rest of Squadron19, as two light and very manoeuvrable could work well in its own section while the rest of the squadron are medium fighters and the main hitting force.

Are the Aquila and Freelancer always available to buy? If yes, I will wait until there is more info about the planetary exploration features. But yes I would prefer to have a rover as I would be most interested in exploring first hand.

I have an Aurora MR fighter that can be upgraded to a Gladius.
And an Aurora LX explorer that can be upgraded to Freelancer or Aquila.

Well, you can join my exploration crew, so long as you don't:

1. Go insane and kill everyone.
2. Get posessed/impregnated by an Alien and kill everyone/give birth to something that will kill everyone.
3. Turn into Mel Gibson (see point 1) and launch a mutiny.

:P

I think the Constellation Aquilla and Freelancer should always be available (or at least as long as ships are available in general).
