Well, I really could've skipped the first 3:40 of that video. And the last 1:25 seemed black-screen only.

However, in between...

VERY IMPRESSIVE.

From a software/modelling point of view, that is a stunning levels of detail and some amazing graphics. I find mention of the so-called "Heatblur-forge" system particularly interesting. Using computer-aided 3D modelling technology will hopefully offset the dramatic increase in development time due to ever-growing complexity.

I have zero interest in the F-14 though. You've got more chance of seeing me in a Spit. Or even a Viggen!

I'm torn. On the one hand this looks like your standard, no real content hype train fanboi fantasy video.

On the other hand the thing does look and sound amazing. However I'm firmly resolved never to buy EA again and there were enough little bits in that video to make me wary.

I'm pleased they appear to be going for a feature complete day 1 release though. It is a massive step in the right direction for software.

Am I the only one thinking it looks a bit "jerky" in turns? Might just be the camera work. Also, looks like Jester AI is sticking various sound files together for sentences. Which leads to very odd tonal differences mid sentence.

But God does it look amazing.

Definitely impressive. Multiplayer in that thing could be a lot of fun...if it works as advertised.

Just watched this through.

Thoughts that crossed my mind as I watch this ....in no particular order ....

Wow that cockpit
Wow that cockpit
Wow that fuselage
Wait, this is polished for the advert ... I wonder what in-game graphics will be like?
Crazy busy skies ... can it happen, sure everything is possible I guess (irony)
Heatblue Forge .... ha! ... gotta love the marketing folks ....
Hmmm ....marketing BS 100% full tilt there .... but it's a good show for a few minutes so whatever
TopGun, the movie has no impact on this preview video's design styling at all has it? (irony)
How many of the community will learn all the ins and outs of the module?
I wonder how many folks will actually go type dedicated onto this aircraft?
Learning slope looks steep?
That RIO control rose looks WAY TOO BIG ....Immerision killer ....
Will Voice Attack be possible and lose this Jester Rose control feature
Whoever shoots down the first F14 better have it on youtube LOL
I'm impressed but not motivated to buy like I was the Viggen - honest reaction
Is there a possibility that the AJS-37 Viggen can get his 'Forge' treatment I wonder?

Seriously looks absolutely fantastic

Congratulations HeatBlur

S!

4:57 -- this is a little self-contradictory. "Every part of our F-14 is hand-sculpted" and "utilising scanning technology". Either they made it by hand, or they scanned it.

3D-scanning technology will let developers quickly and accurately do 3D modelling. There is no need to apply it to the Viggen though, as the 3D modelling is already done. But the fact that scanning is now being used in DCS is cool.

Interestingly, 3D scanning in DCS was pioneered by an amateur modder who was working on the Tu-22. He suddenly dropped off the face of the earth though about a year ago. Or maybe into a Russian gulag...

See my questions to Nick Grey earlier this year, I asked about 3D scanning then:

Ha! Good point. I'd totally forgotten about that.
