Field of View limits added to SoW server

hi akll,

We have now implemented restricted Field of View on the server for all player aircraft.

Minimum field of view has been increased from 20 to 30 degrees. A 20 degree field of view is quite extreme, and allows details of models beyond normal visual range to be discerned b y the player. Bringing this value up to 30 just takes some of the extreme end out.

Maximum field of view reduced from 120 (in spit) and 140 (in german aircraft) down to 105. This removes the "fish eye" distortion that comes in above about 110 degrees. It also means that the tail section and headrest of the aircraft is more of a realistic hinderance to pilot vision behind the aircaft.

Out of curiosity, what's being addressed or fixed by this change?

No issues for me as long as the default in snap FoV views still work which I expect a entirely untouched , save for a slight limit to the full zoomed out one.

I tried it out this evening. The wide field of view limit is pretty good. I found the zoomed-in one a little tricky for target spotting, but not impossible. Overall, I think this is a good improvement, and would recommend keeping these new settings.

@Phil have you edited other things apart FOV views?

i have problems with your server.lua settings
i think both on SOW server and offline too.
(i copyed your file in my savedgames/dcs/config/views/ )
and got the mirror and the front arch misaligned

to fix it i had to overwrite your settings (except the fov ones that works like a charm! TY) with the default settings inside my main dcs folder mod spitfire.

Jimmi, what file specifically did you remove to fix the mirror problem?

I'm at work if you need the exact file i can send it to you this night.

but (if i remember correctly) what i did was to overwirte in your server.lua the files about the spitfire.
i got the original ones from the view.lua form the /main dcs folder/mods/spitfire/
i left your line setting the fov to 30 and 105 and overwritten all the others!

then checked both spitfire and clipped wing spitfire.
both had your corrected FOV
but CW had still the mirror misalignement
so after checking my modification was ok i've overwritten also the CW code!


I think you've done an excellent work! And i strongly belive we should push for a WWII MODPACK that include the label.lua and the fov modifications!
Dietrich told me ther's someone building it! but i have the right link at home!


PS yesterday i made a brief streaming of our test server training (spit cokpit is still broken i sorted it later)
here you can see the he111 mod at work. (gunners were inactive by mission design but they should work i'm told, never tried yet how much they are effective!)
