Sunday July 22 - 1900 UK time - SOW DCS WW2

Postby Admin (Philstyle) » Fri Jul 20, 2018 7:11 am

I will put the SoW DCS server up this sunday night at 1900 UK time for a run of the "Battle for Cherbourg" mission.

We tested the mission publically last night and it's nearly "final".

No need to pre-register, slots will be firt-come-first served. Limit is 35, with about 18 max aircraft available per side.

Last night SoW-DCS WW2 started to fill up pretty quickly during the short test session.
So there is demand out there. Spread the word in your flying groups and amongst your friends.

Both Red and Blue being represented fairly evenly with both 109s and 190s and Spitfires (Clipped wings and regular) as well as the 'Stangs taking to the sky.

Stability was solid for me, spotting has much improved (though in truth, this is something not solely dependant on a server config) and the Mission itself has a dynamic aspect to it even before you consider the fact that it's a MP environment.

The gods of gremlin seemed to strike last night on two fronts ....

1) SRS - many reported issues TX/RX whilst others were able to it seems.
2) The labels mod which presently is an absolute must fell over and wasn't working.

Lastly, there seemed to be an abundance of Red (Allied) but for the most part, fewer Blue (Axis) flyers.

In any case, it's all part and parcel for early days gremlin solving I guess and I am sure solutions will be found.
Sunday evenings can be a hit and miss time slot in any case also and other flight nights are being discussed also.

On a good note, I personally am slowly finding my way with the Spitfire.
Phil claimed on FW190 after I got entangled with it on the north coast of Cherbourg. It's a small but positive result.

Keep getting the word out, especially to 109 and 190 drivers folks.

S!

Edit: Corrected the colour designations for Allied and Axis as per SoW conventions...ergo Dietrich's note below

A report from the Blue* side...

Numbers were a little low, but then it is summer vacation at the moment. We also had a few issues (Little_D had some problems with his installation), but otherwise everything worked okay. I flew a couple of sorties — one excellent, one not so good — claiming a couple of aircraft.

On the positive, I encountered no server lag whatsoever. I don't know if it is Phil's mission design, or there's been a recent change in DCS, but there were no pauses... even with people joining the server.

* Blue = Axis. Ever since CloD (and later emphasised by the Soviet Reds in BoX), the Axis side has been Blue. Yes, you can switch it around in DCS... but please don't! :-)

I discussed this with a few chaps on TS last night. ;)
For the moment, I'm happy to keep ALLIES = RED, AXIS = BLUE, even if none of the other servers do it that way.
